Mary Tingerthal

Mary Tingerthal has spent her professional life working to provide families across the country with better access to homes they can afford. For eight years she led Minnesota’s housing finance agency under Governor Mark Dayton, nearly doubling the number of homeowners and renters served each year during that time. In 2018 the Governor’s Housing Task Force (www.mnhousingtaskforce.com ) published its final report, citing the need for more than 300,000 new housing units to be built in Minnesota by 2023 and calling for innovations in housing construction to help make that goal a reality.

In 2019 Mary brought together sponsors from the development and construction industries to host the Construction Revolution Summit (www.crsummitmn.com ), where speakers from across the country and participants from across Minnesota explored the potential for off site construction to make residential construction faster and less expensive. The Construction Revolution continues today, and was named as a top-25 finalist in the 2020 Ivory Prize (www.ivory-innovations.org ) competition. Mary served as CEO of the National Equity Fund, as major equity investor in affordable rental housing, and has deep experience in the residential finance sector. She has also been a long-time volunteer serving on the boards of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, CommonBond Communities and the National Housing Trust, and was named as a member of the inaugural Community Advisory Council to the Federal Reserve Board in 2015.

Mary serves as a special advisor to Rise Modular, focused on bringing the innovation of modular construction to the attention of developers of affordable and workforce housing. Establishing an open dialogue among developers, architects, contractors, lenders and community leaders about the benefits of off site construction can help more communities to develop the housing they need, and do it more quickly and at a lower cost.
