WBO Membership
TO PUT IT SIMPLY:
Our Woman Business Owners (WBO) are the core of our membership, making up 51% of our membership base. They are our female-owned construction companies. A few things to note:
- The Woman Business Owner must be the primary contact on your application.
- You do not need to be certified as a WBE to apply as a WBO Member with AWC.
- You do need to be at least 51% owner of your business.

PER THE BYLAWS:
The Woman Business Owner (“WBO”) is a business who is majority owned and controlled by women in the construction industry. This membership level is reserved for any company operating with the capacity to design, supply to, construct, build, demolish, or repair any facet of a construction project or whose work is otherwise predominantly performed on a construction site. A WBO member is entitled to one (1) vote. A WBO member is eligible to designate the woman owner who controls the business or one of the women owners who control the business, if there is more than one, as the member representative to hold office as a director or principal officer of AWC. Employees of a WBO member may attend the AWC events at the member rate.
WBO BENEFITS:
- Certification Assistance: AWC is not a certifying agent, but we can help you figure out which certifications are right for your business.
- Small Group Mentoring: The opportunity to join your fellow WBO Members in a small-group mentoring program.
- Construction-Focused Education: Our education is always catered towards YOU, small business owners in the construction industry. From bidding to taxes, we’ve got you covered.
- Advocacy: Our Executive Director sits on countless committees to ensure women and small businesses have a voice in upcoming policy.
BUILD UP CREWS - SMALL GROUP MENTORING:
As stated above, a WBO Member benefit is the opportunity to join a Build Up Crew. Leveraging our amazing membership base, Build Up Crews are construction industry peer advisory groups focused on fostering business, leadership and growth.
Facilitated by the groups themselves, the Build Up Crews are personalized and confidential groups that meet to discuss relevant topics and provide mentorship to each other.
Each Crew is assigned a leader who will help facilitate meeting dates, locations, and topics for discussion. Most Crews meet for 1-2 hours each month, but specifics such as frequency/length of meetings, options for online only/in person, etc. will ultimately be decided by each individual Crew.
