January Education- Building Trades Unions 101

Join us for our first education event of 2020!

This presentation is a high-level overview about Building Trades Unions and will answer
questions like: What do the terms Union/Signatory/Fringe mean? What is a Project Labor
Agreement? What are Prevailing Wages? What are the benefits of a union? And what does it
take to be a successful as a Union Contractor?

Presented by: Jessica Looman

Jessica Looman serves as the Executive Director of the Minnesota State Building and Construction
Trades Council representing 70,000 union construction professionals working in 15 construction trades
throughout the State. Prior to joining the Building Trades, Jessica was appointed by Governor Mark
Dayton to serve as Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Jessica has also served as
the Deputy Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Labor and
Industry and as General Counsel of the Laborers District Council of Minnesota and North Dakota. Jessica
is a graduate of George Washington University (B.A. in political science) and the University of Minnesota
Law School (J.D.).
